Raising Up Leaders

John 1:35-38a reads: “The next day John was there again with two of his disciples.  When he saw Jesus passing by, he said ‘Look, the Lamb of God’!  When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.”

When I read this scripture, my mind immediately went to the last three words “they followed Jesus.”

It made me think about what an amazing leader John must have been.  John must have taught “his” disciples about Jesus because when they saw Jesus, “his” disciples were immediately inclined to leave John’s side and go follow him.

What an amazing, strong leader John must have been.  He must have taught about his mentor and leader, Jesus.  He must have painted such a picture of Jesus that when “his disciples” saw Jesus they IMMEDIATELY left Johns’ side and followed him.

As leaders are we raising up leaders like John did?  Are we raising leaders to follow Jesus?  Are we raising leaders to follow us or follow God?  Are we raising leaders to do what God has called them to do, or are we raising up leaders to continue to follow us?

We have a choice as a leader to either keep the flock close and build our ministry, or to train our leaders to be leaders and send them out.  Are we looking for their gifts and their talents, the call of God on their lives?  Are we looking to develop that call and then send them out to fulfill the plans and purposes of God?  Are we looking for avenues and ways to promote them into their calling?

My evangelistic assignment is to find, equip and launch men and women into their destiny.  This may sound crazy, however, I believe when I get to Heaven, God is going to ask me one question.  That question is this:  “Diana Lynn, while you were on the Earth who did YOU HELP to walk in the plans and purposes that I PLACED, that I HAD for their life?”

God wants us to be Evangelists, to share the Good…God News with everyone.  He wants us to be “Fishers of Men”.  He’s challenged me to take it one step further and that is to “Clean the Fish and send them out.”   I say, you catch the fish, and I’ll clean them. ?  My assignment is to help believers live like Jesus, and to see people walk in their full purpose.  To fulfill their ASSIGNMENT!!!  As leaders are we raising up leaders to walk in their purpose?
